You've heard the saying, 'don't make new year's resolutions, rather set your intentions for the new year.' Resolutions are too pressuring on the mind and soul and may create more disappointment in the end. Setting your intentions, rather, guides you in a more peaceful way to fulfilling your dreams. It gives you the space to be who you are and make the changes necessary as the days and months go on.
For the last several years I've been doing just that, setting my intentions, and not only around new year's eve but throughout the year. I include my small, every day goals as well.
Our lives are constantly changing around family, work, love and relationships. We are always having to shift our priorities around, thus having to create new intentions on moving forward. Whether they be big or small.
The practice lies within patience and peacefulness, with yourself. If you have set your 'intention' to get fit and hit the gym 3 times a week and then find yourself, 2 months later, back down to once a week be OK with that. There is something there preventing you from going full force on your fitness plans. Too much too soon, perhaps? It's just not realistic according to your lifestyle? There is a reason you have fallen back on your original goal and you need to step back and take a look at where you are in life. Find a new list of actions and move forward.
Setting goals are great and a MUST when we desire something so badly. We have to find ways to stay on track and accomplish our dreams. However, setting goals that are too out of reach sets us up for disappointment and possibly sets us in a more negative mindset, thus slowing us down and we end up setting our goals aside. We don't want that!
We want to live our dreams now!!
Be kind to yourself and write down all the intentions you have for 2020. Pick a few to focus on and list all the small actions you can take right NOW, day by day, week by week, to get you closer to completing your goal. Give yourself the time to get there and don't pressure yourself with timelines. Once you find your happiness around that intention then go on to the next one and keep going!
Learning how to sit with patience is essential for reaching our dreams. May you find yours and live the life you deserve.
Here's to 2020; May we all be safe, at peace and full of joy!
With Gratitude x
